The Mummys Club
I have just been reading the birth stories which are posted and OMG!! I feel really lucky with the birth of Taylor. Well done everyone!
Here’s my birth story xx Taylor Leigh Holmes was due on 1st August but arrived on 30th July xx
Thursday 29th July
Woke up at 8.30am with awful pains in my stomach and back, went to the toilet for a wee and noticed a weird trickle when I got off the toilet I then went downstairs but couldn’t get comfy on the sofa so I ran a bath and took 2 paracetamol. The bath and the paracetamol didn’t help. Nathan (my OH) was still in bed when I was doing all this. Lol
I got out off the bath and Nathan was awake, he asked me what was wrong and I said I think my waters have broken and I’m having contractions so we started to time the contractions and I dried my hair and got dressed before ringing the hospital.
Rang the hospital about 10.30 – 11.00 explained that I thought my waters had broken and I was having contractions every 7-10 mins. The midwife told me to go in so they could check me and she said it sounded like I was in early labour.
Got to the hospital for 12.15 and they put me and Nathan in an observation room. They left us in the room for 30 minutes and they asked Nathan to time my contractions and see how many I had in 20 minutes, they came back and never asked how many contractions I had and they strapped me upto a monitor and left us for another 1 hour. Nathan decided to go and fetch us some food while I was strapped to the monitor. When he was gone one of the midwives came and checked if I was dilated and checked my waters, she confirmed that my waters were broken but I was only 2cms dilated! Then Nathan got back and they gave us the option to come home or go onto the ward, me and Nathan decided to stay at the hospital and when they put me onto the ward. I had ago on a birthing ball and my contractions started to get stronger. I was given some co-codamol for the pain but I was sick about 5 minutes after taking them
The pain started to get worse so Nathan went to find a nurse, she examined me and I was now 5cms dilated so they moved me onto the labour ward.
When I was on the labour ward the midwife gave me the option to have some drugs so I had a shot of Diamorphine as I was feeling tired and the pain was quite intense, she told me that the Diamorphine would knock me out for 3 hours so me and Nathan decided that when I had this he would come home for a while and get some sleep and a bath etc. So at 6pm Nathan left the hospital when I was given the drugs
I was really sleepy but the Diamorphine took the pain of the contractions away. I was falling to sleep and then the fire alarm started to go off the midwife came in and told me not to worry about the alarm and I started to fall to sleep again, the alarm went off again but I was happy as I was pain free from the diamorphine
Nathan rang me about 8.30pm to say he was on his way back to the hospital, I could hardly talk as the Diamorphine was wearing off. When Nathan got into the room at 9pm I was taking really deep breaths and couldn’t really speak and he said ring for the midwife then! Lol. I rang for the midwife and when she came in she said right we will set you up on the gas and air now then. She also examined me and said I was 7cms dilated and she would come back to check on me in 3 hours as I should be 10cms by then… 1 hour later she checked me and I was 10cms and ready to push!
so around 10.15pm things got moving, I was taking alot of gas and air and Nathan said I was falling to sleep through my contractions (I can’t remember!?) Lol. I can remember squeezing Nathan’s hand and moving position on the bed ALOT! I was struggling to push Taylor out but she was in the posterior position so the midwives called a doctor in who had to use a ventouse to pull Taylor out. The doctor also cut me but I didn’t know until afterwards when the midwife was stitching me up.
Taylor was born at 00.53 Friday 30th July, Nathan cut the cord even though through all my pregnancy he said he wouldn’t. They pulled her out and her head looked so painful bless her, I can remember saying sorry and feeling guilty for the raised bump on her head and as soon as they put her on me I fell in love! a few people told me that they didn’t feel a love connection straight away but I did!! xxx
It was totally worth it and I would do it all again, even though when someone asked me on that day if I would have another one I said no but looking back I wasn’t in labour for long and at least I know what to expect now Nathan however said he wouldn’t go through it again?? I guess I hurt his hand! Lol xx
